Honda Civic Wheel Swaps: Which Generations Interchange

Looking for the full spec sheet? Bolt pattern, centre bore and factory offset for every year are in our Honda Civic Bolt Pattern by Year (1996-2025) & Offset. This guide covers which wheels swap between models and generations.

The Honda Civic wheel specs change once in the car's modern history: regular Civics from 1996 to 2005 use a 4x100 bolt pattern with a 56.1 mm center bore, and every regular Civic from 2006 to today uses 5x114.3 with a 64.1 mm bore. Two performance versions break the pattern. The Civic Si hatchback (EP3) moved to 5x114.3 early, and the Civic Type R (FK8 and FL5) uses 5x120.

That one change decides which wheels you can bolt on, and it is the reason a wheel from a 2008 Civic will not fit a 2002 Civic. This guide gives the Honda Civic wheel specs for each generation, a wheel swap table, and a Civic wheel offset table in millimetres. The data was checked on 23 October 2026 against independent fitment databases and published Civic guides, and it covers US-market cars. Factory sizes vary by trim, so always compare with the wheel on your own car.

Key facts: Honda Civic wheel specs at a glance

Six generations share two regular bolt patterns, and the center bore changes with them.

The current model page lists the full Honda Civic bolt pattern and offset data by year, and the performance trims have their own pages for the Civic Si and the Civic Type R.

A 2001 Honda Civic LX sedan. It runs 4x100 with a 56.1 mm bore, so only 4-lug wheels bolt on.

Which year did the Honda Civic change from 4x100 to 5x114.3?

The regular Honda Civic changed from 4x100 to 5x114.3 with the 2006 model year, when the 8th generation arrived. The center bore grew from 56.1 mm to 64.1 mm at the same time, and the lug count went from four to five, so no 2005-or-earlier wheel fits a 2006-or-later car.

The exception is the Civic Si hatchback. The EP3 Si is listed as 5x114.3 with a 64.1 mm bore for 2004 and 2005 by two sources, and our dataset lists it from 2002. One guide shows 4x100 for the earliest EP3 years, so count the lugs on your own car before you order a set.

Do Civic Si and Type R wheels fit a regular Civic?

A wheel from any 2006-or-later Civic or Civic Si fits another 2006-or-later regular Civic, because they are all 5x114.3 with a 64.1 mm bore. A Type R wheel is 5x120 and does not fit any regular Civic, and no 5-lug wheel fits a 4x100 Civic.

Factory offset and what a wider wheel does to fitment

The factory offset on the 18x8 Civic wheel is ET50, and most smaller wheels are ET45, so a wider wheel needs a lower offset to keep the tire inside the fender. The table below turns each setup into backspacing and shows how far each edge moves compared with the 18x8 ET50 factory wheel.

SetupBackspacingOuter lip vs stockInner edge vs stock
18x8 ET50 (factory Si and top trims)6.47 in0 mm0 mm
18x8.5 ET426.40 in14.3 mm outward1.7 mm further from the strut
18x9 ET356.38 in27.7 mm outward2.3 mm further from the strut
18x9.5 ET306.43 in39.0 mm outward1.0 mm further from the strut

Backspacing is calculated as width ÷ 2 + offset ÷ 25.4 + 0.5 inch for the flange. Our Civic Si guide lists 18x8.5 ET42 as a flush reference and 18x9 ET35 as the most aggressive fit, and the 18x9.5 ET30 row goes beyond that, so check fender and tire clearance first. Run your own numbers in the offset and backspacing calculator.

Center bore, hub rings and lug thread

A regular Civic has a 56.1 mm center bore up to 2005 and 64.1 mm from 2006, so the bore is the second thing to check after the bolt pattern. A wheel with a larger bore needs hub-centric rings to centre on the hub, and the hub-centric versus lug-centric guide explains why that matters for vibration.

The lug thread is M12x1.5 on every regular Civic in this guide, per wheel-sizes.com and our dataset. Our forged wheels are machined to order, so the bore is cut to 56.1 mm or 64.1 mm and no ring is needed. Use the forged wheel fitment verification checklist for the full list of measurements to take before you order.

Forged wheels for each Honda Civic generation

For a 2006-or-later Civic, a gloss black machined multi-spoke forged wheel keeps a factory-style look with a Honda center cap. For a lighter look, a gold concave 5 Y-spoke forged wheel adds colour, and a gloss black 10-spoke forged wheel suits the Si and the Sport trims.

If you drive a Type R, a silver mesh two-piece forged wheel with a polished lip is listed for the Civic Type R, and it can be drilled to 5x120. Every set is machined to order, so the bolt pattern, bore, width and offset match the tables above.

Browse more OEM-style forged wheels that can be drilled to suit your Civic, or check every Honda on the Honda fitment hub. The Honda Civic wheel specs in this guide come from our open wheel fitment dataset, which is also available through the fitment lookup API.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bolt pattern does a Honda Civic have?

A regular Honda Civic has a 4x100 bolt pattern from 1996 to 2005 and a 5x114.3 bolt pattern from 2006 to today. The center bore is 56.1 mm on the 4x100 cars and 64.1 mm on the 5x114.3 cars, so the Honda Civic wheel specs change in both pattern and bore. The Civic Type R is 5x120.

Which year did the Honda Civic change to 5x114.3?

The regular Civic changed to 5x114.3 in the 2006 model year, the first year of the 8th generation. The Civic Si hatchback (EP3) is listed as 5x114.3 for 2004 and 2005, so count the lugs on a 2002 to 2003 Si before you order wheels.

What center bore does a Honda Civic have?

A Civic from 1996 to 2005 has a 56.1 mm center bore, and a Civic from 2006 to today has a 64.1 mm bore. Wheels with a larger bore need hub-centric rings, while our forged wheels are machined to the exact bore so no ring is needed.

What is the factory offset on a Honda Civic?

Factory offset is ET45 on the 15 to 17 inch wheels of the 8th generation and on the 7x16 and 7x17 wheels of the 10th and 11th generation. The 18x8 wheel, including the Civic Si wheel, is ET50. Compare with the wheel on your own car before you order.

Do Civic Si wheels fit a regular Civic?

A Civic Si wheel from 2006 or later fits another 2006-or-later regular Civic, because they share 5x114.3 and a 64.1 mm bore. Check width, offset and brake clearance first. It does not fit a 1996 to 2005 Civic, which is 4x100.

Do Civic Type R wheels fit a regular Civic?

No. The Civic Type R (FK8 and FL5) is 5x120, while every regular Civic is 4x100 or 5x114.3, so a Type R wheel will not bolt onto a regular Civic. A regular Civic wheel does not bolt onto a Type R either.
