For Mazda wheel interchange, the rule is simple: almost every Mazda car and crossover in this guide uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 67.1 mm center bore, so wheels can swap between the CX-30, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-5, CX-50, CX-9, CX-90 and the NC-generation MX-5 at the hub. The exceptions are the Mazda2 and the MX-5 in its NA, NB and ND generations, which are 4x100 with a 54.1 mm bore and cannot share wheels with the 5-lug group.

Matching the hub is only the first check. Offset, width, brake clearance and load rating decide whether a swap actually works, and this guide gives you the numbers in millimetres. The data was checked on 19 October 2026 against two independent fitment databases for every model, and where the two disagree we say so instead of guessing.

Key facts: Mazda wheel interchange at a glance

Two hub groups cover every Mazda here, and the chassis code tells you which one you have.

  • The 5-lug group: the CX-30, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-5, CX-50, CX-9 and CX-90, plus the NC MX-5, all use 5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm center bore and M12x1.5 lug nuts. Sources: the koleso.ee CX-5 KF page, the koleso.ee CX-50 page and the koleso.ee CX-90 page, confirmed by the Limitless Tire CX-90 page, the ThreePiece CX-5 page and the Wheel-Sizes hub bore list.
  • The MX-5 changes twice: the NA and NB are 4x100 with a 54.1 mm bore, the NC is 5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm bore, and the ND returns to 4x100 and 54.1 mm, so NC wheels do not fit an ND. Sources: the koleso.ee NC and ND pages, checked against the Limitless Tire 2010 and 2020 pages.
  • Same hub, different offset: a factory 7Jx17 wheel is ET40 on the CX-50 and ET50 on the first-generation CX-5, so the CX-5 wheel sits 10 mm further inboard on a CX-50. Sources: koleso.ee and ThreePiece agree on both values, see the ThreePiece CX-50 page and the 2014 CX-5 page.

Which Mazda models share a bolt pattern and center bore?

Every model in the table below shares the M12x1.5 lug thread, and the bolt pattern and bore split them into two groups. Find your chassis code, then read across to see which group your car belongs to, because that is the starting point for any Mazda wheel interchange.

Every row was checked on koleso.ee and on a second database (Limitless Tire, ThreePiece or Wheel-Sizes), and regional launch dates overlap, which is why the CX-5 KE and KF years touch. The full model list, including the pickup and rotary cars, is on the Mazda bolt pattern by model page, and the two hub groups each have a size page: 5x114.3 wheels and 4x100 wheels.

What bolts onto what: the Mazda wheel interchange chart

A wheel bolts on at the hub when the bolt pattern matches, the lug count matches and the wheel bore is at least as large as the hub bore. This chart applies that test to the two Mazda hub groups.

Hub groupModelsWheels interchange at the hub?
5x114.3 / 67.1 mmCX-30, Mazda3 (all generations), Mazda6 (GJ/GL), CX-5, CX-50, CX-9, CX-90, MX-5 NCYes, within this group. Check offset, width, brakes and load rating for each pairing.
4x100 / 54.1 mmMX-5 NA, NB and ND, Mazda2 (DJ/DL)Yes, within this group. A 4-lug wheel never fits a 5-lug hub.
Across the groupsAny 5-lug Mazda with any 4-lug MazdaNo. The lug count and the bore are both different.

In practical terms, Mazda wheel interchange works like this: a 17-inch wheel from a Mazda3 will bolt on a CX-5 and the other way round, but an ND MX-5 wheel will never fit a CX-30. A wheel with a bore smaller than 67.1 mm will not slide over a 5-lug Mazda hub at all, so always confirm the bore of a used or third-party wheel.

Does offset change Mazda wheel interchange?

Yes, offset is the number that decides whether a hub-matched swap rubs. The four factory fitments below have a matching figure in two databases, so we can compare them in millimetres.

Factory wheelCarOffsetInner edge from hub faceShift vs CX-50 17x7
7Jx17CX-50ET40128.9 mmBaseline
7Jx17CX-5 first generation (KE)ET50138.9 mm10.0 mm further inboard
6.5Jx16CX-30ET45127.6 mm1.4 mm less inner depth, outer lip 11.4 mm further in
8Jx18CX-9 (TC)ET45146.6 mm17.7 mm further inboard, outer lip 7.7 mm further out

The inner edge is half the rim width plus the offset, and the outer lip is half the rim width minus the offset, both measured from the hub mounting face and calculated by script. Read the table as a screening aid, not an approval: tire width, caliper shape and suspension travel also matter, and our offset and backspacing calculator will rerun the maths for your own size.

One database lists the second-generation CX-5 at ET45 and the other at ET50, so we have left that generation out of the table. When published numbers disagree, read the stamp on the back of your own wheel or check the forged wheel fitment verification checklist before you order.

Mazda MX-5 wheel interchange: NC versus ND

The MX-5 is the one Mazda where the bolt pattern flips between generations, so the generation letters matter more than the model year. The NA and NB are 4x100, the NC is 5x114.3, and the ND goes back to 4x100 with the smaller 54.1 mm bore.

Fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 (ND) roadster in red, front left view of the 4x100 car
The ND roadster is a 4x100 car, so wheels from the 5-lug NC do not fit it.

That means NC wheels fit a Mazda3 or a CX-5 hub, but not an ND, while an ND wheel only fits other 4x100 Mazdas such as the NA, the NB and the Mazda2. On an NA, a 14-inch factory wheel is ET45 in both koleso.ee and the ThreePiece 1990 Miata page, which is the one NA offset we can confirm twice.

For the 4-lug cars we build forged wheels to order, for example a matte bronze mesh-style 4-lug forged wheel drilled 4x100 for the MX-5. For the NC, the bright silver 7-spoke 5-lug forged wheel is cut for the 5x114.3 hub and also suits the Mazda3.

If you are not sure which MX-5 you have, check the lug count first: four nuts means 4x100, five nuts means 5x114.3. The factory wheel size and offset for each generation are on the MX-5 bolt pattern by year page.

Mazda wheel interchange between the Mazda3, CX-30 and CX-5

The Mazda3, CX-30 and CX-5 all share a hub, so their wheels physically swap. The Mazda3 and CX-30 use 16 and 18-inch wheels, and the CX-5 carries 17 to 19-inch sizes.

A Mazda3 (BP) shares its 5x114.3 hub with the CX-30 and CX-5, so wheel swaps start from the same hub numbers.

Because the CX-5 is a heavier vehicle, put CX-5 wheels on a Mazda3 only after you have checked the offset, and put Mazda3 wheels on a CX-5 only if the wheel load rating is high enough. Our guide to wheel load rating explains the stamp to look for.

If you want a new set rather than a swap, a five-spoke forged wheel with a machined face and black outer lip is made for the CX-5 and Mazda6, and a matte silver 10-spoke forged wheel is cut for the 5x114.3 Mazda3 and NC MX-5 hubs.

Hub rings and wheels from other brands

Hub rings are part of every Mazda wheel interchange that uses third-party wheels. Most aftermarket wheels are made with a bore larger than 67.1 mm so they can fit several cars, and they need a hub-centric ring to centre correctly on a Mazda. A wheel with a 73.1 mm bore, for example, needs a 73.1 to 67.1 mm ring, which fills the 6.0 mm gap.

The 4-lug Mazdas are different: their 54.1 mm bore is 13.0 mm narrower than the 5-lug hub, so a ring made for one group never works on the other. Our hub-centric versus lug-centric guide shows why a ring matters for vibration, and our forged wheels are machined to your car so no ring is needed.

CX-9 and CX-90: large-wheel Mazda wheel interchange

The three-row CX-9 and CX-90 use the same 5x114.3 hub and 67.1 mm bore as the small cars, but their factory wheels are much larger and carry a heavier vehicle. A CX-9 factory wheel is 8Jx18 ET45, confirmed by koleso.ee and ThreePiece, while the CX-90 lists 8Jx18 to 9.5Jx21 at ET45 on koleso.ee only, so we treat its offsets as unconfirmed.

The CX-90 uses the same 5x114.3, 67.1 mm hub as the small Mazdas but carries far more weight, so check the load rating.

A CX-9 or CX-90 wheel will physically fit a CX-30 or Mazda3, but the larger wheel is a poor match for those cars because of its width and weight. Going the other way, small-car wheels can be under-rated for a three-row crossover, so use wheels made and rated for the heavier car. You can look up any of these models in our open wheel fitment dataset or through the fitment lookup API.

Forged wheels for Mazda 5-lug and 4-lug hubs

Whichever Mazda wheel interchange you plan, we make forged wheels drilled for either Mazda hub group, bored to 67.1 mm or 54.1 mm and sized to your offset. The four wheels below are checked against the product photos for lug count and center cap.

Frequently asked questions about Mazda wheel interchange

Do Mazda3 wheels fit a CX-5?

At the hub, yes. Every Mazda3 generation and the CX-5 are 5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm center bore, so the wheel bolts on and centres correctly. Check the offset, the width and the wheel load rating before you swap, because the CX-5 is a heavier vehicle.

Do CX-5 wheels fit a CX-50?

Yes at the hub, because both are 5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm bore. Offset differs: a factory 7Jx17 wheel is ET40 on the CX-50 and ET50 on the first-generation CX-5, so the CX-5 wheel sits 10 mm further inboard on a CX-50.

Do MX-5 NC wheels fit an ND?

No. The NC is 5x114.3 with a 67.1 mm bore and the ND is 4x100 with a 54.1 mm bore, so the lug count and the bore are both different. NC wheels fit other 5-lug Mazdas instead, such as the Mazda3 and CX-5.

Can I use Mazda2 wheels on an MX-5?

The Mazda2 (DJ/DL) and the NA, NB and ND MX-5 are all 4x100 with a 54.1 mm bore, so the hubs match. Confirm the offset and load rating first, since the Mazda2 is built as a lighter car.

What center bore does a Mazda have?

The 5-lug Mazdas in this guide have a 67.1 mm center bore, and the 4-lug Mazda2 and MX-5 (NA, NB, ND) have a 54.1 mm bore. A wheel with a larger bore needs a hub-centric ring, while our forged wheels are machined to your hub so no ring is needed.

What lug nuts does a Mazda use?

Every Mazda in this guide uses an M12x1.5 thread, according to koleso.ee, Limitless Tire and ThreePiece. Published torque figures vary between sources, so use the value in your owner's manual.
