BMW 2 Series wheel specs guide: G42 M240i xDrive coupe on factory alloy wheels, front three-quarter view

The BMW 2 Series wheel specs change once in the middle of the range: the F22 coupe and F23 convertible (2014–2021) use a 5x120 bolt pattern with a 72.6 mm center bore, while the F44 Gran Coupe and the G42 coupe (2021 on) use 5x112 with a 66.6 mm bore. The lug bolts are M14x1.25 on all of them. Offset is the second trap, because an F44 wheel and a G42 wheel share a hub but differ by about 24 mm of offset.

This guide gives the BMW 2 Series wheel specs for each generation, the factory wheel sizes and offsets that two independent fitment databases agree on, and a swap table in millimetres. The data was checked on 17 October 2026. It covers the F22/F23, F44 and G42 cars; the M2 has its own chassis and is linked below.

Key facts: BMW 2 Series wheel specs at a glance

Two bolt patterns cover the whole BMW 2 Series range, and the chassis code tells you which one you have.

  • Bolt pattern and bore: the F22/F23 coupe and convertible are 5x120 with a 72.6 mm bore, and the F44 Gran Coupe and G42 coupe are 5x112 with a 66.6 mm bore. Sources: the koleso.ee F22/F23 page and the Limitless Tire 2017 page for 5x120; the koleso.ee F44 page, the koleso.ee G42 page and the Limitless Tire 2024 page for 5x112.
  • Same hub, different offset: the F44 and the G42 are both 5x112, but factory offset is ET47 to ET54 on the F44 and ET25 to ET30 on the front of a G42, a 24 mm gap on a 7.5Jx17 wheel. Sources: the koleso.ee F44 and G42 pages, with the offset ranges on the Limitless Tire 2020 page and 2024 page.
  • Fasteners: M14x1.25 lug bolts tightened to 140 N·m on every generation covered here. Sources: the koleso.ee pages and Limitless Tire.

BMW 2 Series wheel specs by generation (2014–2025)

Use this table to match your chassis code to its bolt pattern and center bore before you look at wheel size.

GenerationBodyYearsBolt patternCenter boreLug bolt
F22 / F23Coupe / Convertible2014–20215x12072.6 mmM14x1.25

G42Coupe2021–20255x11266.6 mmM14x1.25

The 2025-on F74 Gran Coupe is not in the table because only one database lists its sizes so far. The M2 sits on its own chassis: the F87 M2 is 5x120 and the G87 M2 is 5x112, as shown on our F87 M2 page and G87 M2 page.

Which BMW 2 Series has a 5x120 bolt pattern and which has 5x112?

The BMW 2 Series F22 coupe and F23 convertible (2014–2021) have a 5x120 bolt pattern with a 72.6 mm center bore. The F44 Gran Coupe (2019–2024) and the G42 coupe (2021 on) have a 5x112 bolt pattern with a 66.6 mm center bore. Wheels from one group cannot be bolted onto the other.

Body style does not predict the pattern: the F22 coupe is 5x120 while the G42 coupe is 5x112, so the chassis code is the only reliable guide. You can find it in the VIN data or on the registration papers, and our 5x120 wheel size page and 5x112 wheel size page list every model on each pattern.

BMW 2 Series factory wheel sizes and offsets (F22, F44, G42)

Factory offset runs from ET25 on a G42 front wheel to ET54 on an F44, and this table lists only the sizes where two sources agree.

GenerationAxleFactory wheelOffset
F22 / F23Front7Jx16ET40
F22 / F23Front7.5Jx17ET43

G42 (M240i)Front8Jx19ET27
G42Rear8.5Jx18ET40
G42 (M240i)Rear8.5Jx19ET40

Each value comes from the koleso.ee page for that generation and sits inside the offset range that Limitless Tire publishes for the same cars. The G42 listing on the koleso.ee G42 LCI page gives the same 7.5Jx18 ET25 front wheel for the 2024–2025 cars.

We left two numbers out on purpose. The F22 rear offset is not in the table because the sources disagree: one lists ET52 to ET53 on 8J rear wheels, Limitless Tire gives a rear range of ET34 to ET50, and a UK fitment table lists ET44 front and rear. The F44 M235i xDrive is also left out, because one database gives it a lower front range (ET25 to ET45) than the other. If you own either car, read the offset stamped on the back of your wheel.

The rear wheel of a G42 M240i xDrive. The G42 M240i runs 8.5Jx19 ET40 at the rear and 8Jx19 ET27 at the front.

Many G42 trims are staggered, with a narrower front and a wider rear. The pair 7.5Jx18 ET25 at the front and 8.5Jx18 ET40 at the rear is the example: the rear wheel is 25.4 mm wider and has 15 mm more offset, so it sits further in. That is why you cannot rotate front and rear wheels on a staggered G42.

Can F44 Gran Coupe wheels go on a G42 coupe, and the reverse?

The bolt pattern and bore match, but the offset does not: both cars are 5x112 with a 66.6 mm bore, yet a factory G42 wheel has about 24 mm less offset than an F44 wheel of the same width. A G42 wheel therefore sits 24 mm further out on an F44, and an F44 wheel sits 24 mm further in on a G42.

Wheel sizeG42 front offsetF44 offsetG42 wheel on an F44F44 wheel on a G42

18-inch (7.5J on G42, 8J on F44)ET25ET5429 mm further out29 mm further in
19-inch (8J)ET27ET54 (listed option)27 mm further out27 mm further in

The shift is the difference in offset, measured at the wheel centre line, so it is a screening number and not an approval. A wheel that sits 24 mm further out can poke past the arch, and a wheel that sits 24 mm further in can touch the strut or the brake caliper. The 18-inch row also changes the width by half an inch, so check the edges with the offset and backspacing calculator before you buy.

BMW 2 Series wheel offset math for upgrade sizes (G42 M240i example)

A wider wheel moves the outer edge out and the inner edge in, and a lower offset moves both edges out. The table starts from the G42 M240i front wheel, 8Jx19 ET27, and shows how far each edge moves in millimetres.

New front wheelOuter edge vs factoryInner edge vs factoryBackspacing
8Jx19 ET27 (factory)0 mm0 mm128.6 mm
8.5Jx19 ET276.3 mm out6.3 mm in134.9 mm
8.5Jx19 ET2211.3 mm out1.3 mm in129.9 mm
9Jx19 ET2712.7 mm out12.7 mm in141.3 mm
9Jx19 ET2217.7 mm out7.7 mm in136.3 mm
9.5Jx19 ET2224.0 mm out14.0 mm in142.6 mm

The outer edge moves by the offset change plus half the width change (12.7 mm per inch of width). Backspacing is the width times 12.7 plus the offset. These are arithmetic results from the factory size; arch and strut clearance on your own car still decides what is safe, and the forged wheel fitment verification checklist shows which measurements to take.

Which other BMW wheels share the 2 Series bolt pattern?

The 5x120 group is the older rear-drive BMW range, and the 5x112 group is the newer one; a matching bolt pattern is necessary but offset still decides the fit.

The M models in this table come from our BMW M bolt pattern guide, which lists the chassis switch from 5x120 to 5x112 for the M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 and M8. For every BMW we cover, see the BMW fitment hub.

BMW 2 Series center bore, hub rings and lug bolts

The center bore is 72.6 mm on the F22 and F23 and 66.6 mm on the F44 and G42, and a wheel bore must be at least as large as the hub it sits on. A wheel with a 72.6 mm bore needs a 72.6 to 66.6 mm ring to centre on a G42 hub, and a wheel with a 66.6 mm bore will not go over an F22 hub at all.

The hub-centric versus lug-centric guide explains why a loose fit causes vibration. Our forged wheels are machined to order, so the bore is cut to your car's value and no ring is needed. The lug bolts are M14x1.25 on every generation covered here, so confirm the seat type with the wheel maker before you order.

Forged wheels for each BMW 2 Series generation

For a G42 or F44 on 5x112, a gunmetal machined 5 Y-spoke forged wheel keeps a factory look with a BMW center cap. A gloss black machined multi-spoke forged wheel suits a darker car.

If you prefer a ten-spoke design, the gunmetal 10-spoke forged wheel and the bright silver machined twin 10-spoke forged wheel are listed for the newer BMW range. Each wheel is made to order, so tell us whether your car is a 5x120 F22 or a 5x112 F44 or G42 and the drilling will match.

Frequently asked questions about BMW 2 Series wheels

What bolt pattern does a BMW 2 Series have?

It depends on the chassis. The F22 coupe and F23 convertible (2014–2021) are 5x120, and the F44 Gran Coupe and G42 coupe are 5x112. The BMW 2 Series wheel specs therefore split into two groups, and wheels from one group do not fit the other.

What is the center bore of a BMW 2 Series?

The F22 and F23 have a 72.6 mm center bore, and the F44 and G42 have a 66.6 mm center bore. A wheel with a larger bore needs a hub-centric ring, while our forged wheels are machined to your car so no ring is needed.

Do F22 wheels fit a G42 2 Series?

No. The F22 is 5x120 and the G42 is 5x112, so the bolt holes do not line up, and the center bore also changes from 72.6 mm to 66.6 mm. Use wheels drilled for your own chassis code.

Can I put F44 Gran Coupe wheels on a G42 coupe?

The bolt pattern and bore match, because both are 5x112 with a 66.6 mm bore, but the offset does not. A factory F44 wheel is ET54 on a 7.5Jx17 size and a G42 wheel is ET30, so the F44 wheel sits 24 mm further in on a G42 and may touch the strut or brake.

What offset does a BMW M240i G42 run?

The G42 M240i runs 8Jx19 ET27 at the front and 8.5Jx19 ET40 at the rear. Both values agree between koleso.ee and the offset ranges published by Limitless Tire.

What lug bolts and torque does a BMW 2 Series use?

Every generation covered here uses M14x1.25 lug bolts tightened to 140 N·m, according to koleso.ee and Limitless Tire. Confirm the bolt seat type with the wheel maker before you order a new set.
