Cast wheels are produced by pouring molten aluminum into a mold, where it cools and solidifies. Forged wheels start from a solid billet of aluminum that is compressed under extreme pressure, which aligns the metal’s internal grain structure rather than leaving it randomly distributed as in casting.

The practical result is a forged wheel that is significantly stronger for the same weight, or lighter for the same strength. This matters most in applications where unsprung weight and impact resistance are critical — performance driving, racing and off-road use.

Forging also allows for tighter dimensional tolerances and fewer internal defects, which is part of why forged wheels typically carry higher load ratings than a cast wheel of similar size.
