ANKUSI Engineering Expert Advice

On a symmetrical-AWD performance sedan like the WRX, wheel weight shows up directly in launch traction and mid-corner rotation — this is a platform where forging pays off in stopwatch terms, not just curb appeal. Because the WRX already runs a fairly aggressive factory offset, the margin between stock and our Flush reference is smaller than on a typical sedan, which keeps the swap predictable.

The WRX uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern, 56.1mm center bore, and an 18x8.5J ET55 wheel from the factory, front and rear. Our Flush Fitment reference is an 18x9.5J at ET38, which fills the fender opening on a stock or mildly lowered WRX. Our Maximum Aggressive reference is also an 18x9.5J but at ET22 — at that offset, verify strut and sway bar link clearance before ordering.

Subaru WRX OE Wheel Specs

The 2025 Subaru WRX (Sport Sedan) uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm center bore. Factory wheels are 18x8.5J at ET55 offset, front and rear.

Why the factory spec works for most owners:

  • Keeps unsprung weight low to preserve the factory handling balance
  • Matches the wider, performance-oriented tire sizing typical of this platform
  • Maintains clearance for the factory brake package and suspension geometry
  • Balances grip with ride comfort for daily and spirited driving

ANKUSI builds these wheels — we are the forging factory, not a reseller. For the Subaru WRX (2025) we drill the 5x114.3 pattern and cut the centre bore to 56.1mm on our own CNC line, so the wheel hub-centres on the car with no spacer rings, in whatever diameter, width and offset you specify.

Flush Fitment

For a flush look, a 18x9.5J wheel at ET38 offset (front and rear) is a commonly used starting point — clearance must be verified on a stock or mildly lowered Subaru WRX.

Maximum Aggressive Fitment

18x9.5J at ET22 offset is a more aggressive reference setup. Beyond this, expect rubbing under compression without fender rolling or camber correction.

Offset & Backspacing Reference

Backspacing is calculated as wheel width (in) ÷ 2 + offset (mm) ÷ 25.4 + 0.5 (flange allowance):

  • OE: 18x8.5J ET55 → ~6.92\" backspacing
  • Flush: 18x9.5J ET38 → ~6.75\" backspacing
  • Max: 18x9.5J ET22 → ~6.12\" backspacing

Want to check a different width or offset before you order? Use our Offset & Backspacing Calculator to solve the numbers yourself, or can't find your exact Subaru spec, or want a wheel built to a custom offset for your Subaru WRX? Contact ANKUSI with your bolt pattern and offset target and we'll confirm the correct forged wheel spec for your build.

Custom Forged Wheels for the Subaru WRX (2025)

Everything above is reference data. If you want wheels actually built to it, that is what ANKUSI does: we are a forged wheel factory in Guangzhou, China, IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 certified, forging on our own 10,000-ton press and producing over 120,000 wheels a year. Forging blank, CNC machining, finishing, coating and inspection all happen in the same building — nothing is subcontracted and nothing is relabelled from another manufacturer.

Every set is cut to order, so the 5x114.3 pattern and the 56.1mm centre bore are machined for this car specifically rather than shimmed with adaptor rings. Diameter, width, offset, concavity, monoblock or multi-piece construction and the finish are all yours to choose — most Subaru orders on this platform land somewhere between the 18x9.5J ET38 flush setup and the 18x9.5J ET22 aggressive setup referenced above.

Frequently Asked Questions

What bolt pattern (PCD) does the Subaru WRX use?
The 2025 Subaru WRX uses a 5x114.3 bolt pattern.
How many lug bolts does the Subaru WRX use?
The Subaru WRX uses a 5-lug bolt pattern (5x114.3), so you need a 5-lug forged wheel to bolt straight on.
What is the center bore size on the Subaru WRX?
The Subaru WRX's center bore is 56.1mm. If an aftermarket wheel has a larger center bore than this, hub-centric rings are recommended so the wheel centers on the hub itself rather than relying on the lug bolts alone.
What size are the factory (stock) wheels on the Subaru WRX?
Factory wheels on the Subaru WRX are 18x8.5J at ET55 offset, front and rear.
What is the biggest wheel size I can fit on my Subaru WRX without rubbing?
The most aggressive fitment we recommend without fender work is 18x9.5J at ET22 offset. Going beyond this typically causes rubbing under compression unless you roll the fenders or add camber correction.
What does a flush wheel fitment look like on the Subaru WRX?
For a flush look with minimal to no rubbing, we recommend 18x9.5J at ET38 offset as a starting point on a stock or mildly lowered Subaru WRX.
Do I need wheel spacers for my Subaru WRX?
No. ANKUSI forges each wheel to your exact target offset, including the flush or max specs above, so you get the correct fitment without stacking spacers. Spacers are typically only used to push out an existing OE-offset wheel without replacing it, which isn't necessary when you're ordering a custom-offset forged wheel.
How do I calculate wheel backspacing for my Subaru WRX?
Backspacing (in inches) = wheel width (in) ÷ 2 + offset (mm) ÷ 25.4 + 0.5 (flange allowance). For example, the flush spec above works out to roughly 6.75" of backspacing.
What's the difference between wheel offset and backspacing?
Offset is the distance in millimeters from the wheel's true centerline to its mounting face (positive offset pulls the wheel in, negative pushes it out). Backspacing is the distance in inches from the mounting face to the back edge of the wheel barrel. They describe the same fitment from two different reference points, which is why ANKUSI lists both above — some shops and tuning guides quote offset, others quote backspacing.
Can I run staggered wheels (different sizes front and rear) on my Subaru WRX?
The Subaru WRX runs the same wheel size front and rear from the factory, so staggered fitment is not required. ANKUSI can still forge a staggered set (wider rear) on request if you want a more aggressive stance.

Vehicles With the Same Hub as the Subaru WRX (5x114.3, 56.1 mm Bore)

In our database, 19 other Subaru entries use exactly the same 5x114.3 bolt pattern and 56.1 mm center bore. Factory wheels from these cars bolt on and center on the hub without rings; offset and width still have to be checked.

5x114.3 is used by 20.0% of the vehicle pages in our English fitment guide (1,300 of 6,503); 1.5% of those also use a 56.1 mm center bore.

Offset and Backspacing: Factory Wheel vs Options

Backspacing ≈ width/2 + ET/25.4 + 0.5 in. "Inward" means closer to the suspension; "outward" means closer to the fender lip.

Hub-Centric Rings for a 56.1 mm Center Bore

A wheel with a center bore larger than 56.1 mm needs a hub-centric ring. The most common combinations:

Wheel boreRing size

60.1 mm60.1 → 56.1 mm
63.4 mm63.4 → 56.1 mm

73.1 mm73.1 → 56.1 mm

ANKUSI forged wheels are bored to exactly 56.1 mm for this vehicle, so no ring is needed.
